“DeckChairs”

Iberia plans to purchase Air Europa's stake for €500 million, marking a significant shift in the European aviation industry following the coronavirus pandemic. The acquisition is valued at €500 million and is expected to be completed in 2024. IAG has proposed strategic concessions to increase competition, including surrendering routes and slots to competitors like Ryanair, Volotea, and World2Fly. The merger aims to convert Madrid-Barajas into a competitive hub for intercontinental flights, boosting passenger traffic and improving connectivity. The merger is expected to create between 1,250 and 1,800 direct jobs, augment Madrid airport's earnings by €30 million, and enhance air cargo traffic by 16,000 tons.

Seeking wicked problems, finding opportunities: Advancing Australian general aviation policy beyond COVID-19

1200-X-800-NIGHTFALL-AIRPORT

This paper explores the efficacy and value of Australian general aviation policy, focusing on the challenges faced by stakeholders. The research uses qualitative findings from a longitudinal study to identify policy issues and their attitudes towards the current policy environment. The findings suggest that while there is a willingness to engage with progressive policy initiatives, efforts to resolve endemic and emergent issues are being compromised by the current bureaucratic engagement strategies in place to participate in industry planning. The paper argues that a more engaging model for consultation between stakeholders is necessary to maximize the planning outcomes and economic utility of general aviation.
